This year, our Cream Legbar pullets and hens will be bred to non-related Cream and White Legbar cockbirds. We are doing this purposefully so that we can improve on our Cream Legbar stock with some of the confirmation goals listed below that we have not been able to yet achieve with our Cream Legbar pairings.
How does this impact the stock you will be recieving from us?
As outlined in the proposed Standard of Perfection (SOP)
Tail (male): Moderately full, carried at an angle of forty-five degrees above horizontal.
Tail (female): Moderately long, carried at an angle of thirty-five degrees above horizontal.
As outlined in the proposed Standard of Perfection (SOP)
Wings(male & female): Large and carried close to the body without dropping.
As outlined in the proposed Standard of Perfection (SOP)
Ear-lobes (male): Enamel white. For Cocks over one year of age only, no defect cuts for red covering up to one-third of the surface.
Ear-lobes (female): Enamel white.
The Merry Hen started obtaining Cream Legbar breeding stock in 2015. From there, we added stock from three different breeders in 2016, and two others in 2019 and 2020. All stock in the United States comes from the exports from Greenfire Farms. Our Cream Legbars are descendants from the C and Rees 1 line. Our White Legbars are most likely from their B line.
In 2023, we will be mating our White Legbar cockbirds to our Cream Legbar pullets and hens. This will introduce the B line qualities to the existing C and Rees 1.
Our birds do not have any bloodlines from the A line or Rees 2
